Maternal & Child Healthcare Activities
Our plan for the first two years
Friends of HSMH Canada will support maternal and child healthcare programs focused on underserved and low-income populations in Malir, Karachi, Pakistan, where access to quality maternal and pediatric care remains limited.
These activities are intended to advance health and relieve poverty by improving access to essential medical services for women, infants, and children of underserved and financially disadvantaged populations who may otherwise lack access to timely and appropriate medical care.

Initial operations & community impact
Maternal Health Services
The hospital will provide:
- Prenatal (antenatal) care for pregnant women
- Routine pregnancy monitoring and screening
- Ultrasound and laboratory testing
- Identification of high-risk pregnancies
- Nutritional guidance and prenatal education
- Basic medications and supplements for eligible low-income patients
Priority will be given to financially disadvantaged women who may otherwise lack access to safe maternal healthcare.
Safe Delivery & Obstetric Care
HSMH will support:
- Normal vaginal deliveries
- Emergency obstetric care
- Cesarean section capability where medically necessary
- Labor and delivery monitoring
- Postpartum maternal care
The objective is to reduce preventable maternal and newborn complications through timely medical intervention.
Newborn & Infant Care
The hospital will provide:
- Immediate newborn assessment and stabilization
- Neonatal monitoring
- Vaccination guidance and referral
- Nutritional counseling for mothers
- Basic neonatal intensive care support (NICU capability as operationally available)
Special attention will be given to premature and medically vulnerable infants.
Pediatric Outpatient Services
Children from underserved communities will receive:
- General pediatric consultations
- Treatment of common childhood illnesses
- Fever, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and infectious disease management
- Growth and nutrition assessments
- Preventive healthcare counseling
Financial Assistance Program
Eligible low-income maternal and pediatric patients may receive:
- Free care
- Subsidized consultations
- Reduced-cost medications
- Charitable assistance for essential procedures
Patients will be assessed through the hospital’s social welfare and financial assistance process.

As hospital capacity grows, HSMH plans to:
- Expand labor and delivery services

- Further develop NICU/PICU services
- Increase inpatient maternal and pediatric beds
Preventive & Community Health Programs
The hospital intends to support:
- Maternal health awareness programs
- Breastfeeding and nutrition education
- Vaccination awareness campaigns
- Community outreach focused on maternal and child wellness
These programs will primarily target underserved populations.
High-Risk Maternal & Pediatric Care
The hospital aims to gradually strengthen:
- High-risk pregnancy management
- Emergency neonatal support
- Pediatric emergency care
- Referral coordination for complex cases
Maternal & Child Health Care
Now becoming a reality
By the grace of Allah, Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital is ready to open its doors. Located in the Malir District of Karachi along the National Highway, this 312-bed tertiary care hospital has been built to serve one of Karachi’s most underserved communities, a population of more than 2 million people.
HSMH will be inaugurated on 25 December 2026 and will welcome its first patient on 26 December. Treatment will be free for patients who cannot afford it; those who can afford care will receive services on a cost-based basis.
More than 80 supporters have already signed up to attend the inauguration in Karachi. Our mission doesn’t end when the doors open. We need your continued support to sustain, strengthen and grow HSMH for generations to come
